British fintech company VALT has launched operations in Bangladesh, bringing its digital payment and point-of-sale (POS) platform to the country’s hospitality sector as it looks to replicate technology developed for merchants in the UK.
The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of UK-based VALT Holdings, was formally launched in Sylhet on Saturday by Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Khaled Ahmed.
Senior officials from commercial banks and members of the local business community attended the event.
According to a press release, VALT provides payment processing and POS solutions to hotels, restaurants and other hospitality businesses in the UK. The company said its Bangladesh operation will offer similar digital payment and business management tools to local merchants to help reduce reliance on cash transactions and improve operational efficiency.
Although headquartered in the UK, VALT said its technology platform has been developed and supported over the past decade by Sylhet-based software company Yo Tech, highlighting Bangladesh’s growing role in building fintech products for international markets.
The company said its Bangladesh-based technology teams will continue supporting its global operations while expanding digital payment solutions for the domestic market.
Speaking at the launch, Khaled Ahmed said the investment reflects the growing capabilities of Bangladesh’s technology sector, particularly in Sylhet. He said Bangladesh Bank is working to expand financial inclusion and that applying experience gained from processing UK transactions could help accelerate the digital transformation of local merchants and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
Asad Zaman, co-founder and chief product officer of VALT Holdings and chief executive officer of VALT, said engineers in Sylhet had spent the past decade developing software for overseas clients, experience that had been leveraged to build a fintech platform tailored for Bangladesh.
He said the platform would enable businesses to move beyond cash-based transactions by integrating digital payments with operational and data management tools, allowing merchants to make more informed business decisions and improve day-to-day operations.
The launch comes as Bangladesh’s digital payments market continues to expand, with fintech firms and banks increasingly investing in payment technologies to support the country’s shift towards a more cashless economy.
