Several veteran Bangladeshi film artistes recently reunited for an intimate gathering at the home of actress Kamrunnahar Anna in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Sultana, Nuton, Dilara Yasmin, Rina Khan and Rebeka were among the artistes who attended the gathering, which Anna had planned for some time.
The senior artistes once appeared regularly in films, often working together across different productions. However, changing storytelling styles and casting patterns have reduced opportunities for many veteran performers. As a result, they now rarely meet outside special occasions.
Anna, who has played mother roles in numerous films, invited several of her senior colleagues to her home two days ago. The gathering gave them an opportunity to reconnect, reminisce about their careers and spend time together after a long gap.
Sultana is remembered for her performances in numerous popular films. Many viewers may recall her appearance in the song ‘O Dada Bhai Murti Banao’ from Roktakto Bangla, where she played the sister of actor Biswajit, father of popular Kolkata star Prosenjit.
“Honestly, I felt wonderful being able to spend time in this kind of conversation and adda after such a long time. I sincerely thank Anna for arranging this gathering at her home,” Sultana said.
Dilara Yasmin, who had the opportunity to work with legendary actors including Nayak Raj Razzak, also expressed her happiness at meeting her former colleagues.
“I rarely leave home unless I have something important to do. I liked the idea as soon as Anna told me about her plan. Meeting everyone again made me so happy that I cannot express the feeling in words,” Dilara said.
Anna said she had invited several other artistes as well, but everyone could not attend because their schedules did not match.
“I had invited many more people, but it is not always possible for everyone to be free on the same day. Some could not come and later regretted missing it. Still, I was especially happy that Sultana Apa, Nutan Apa, Dilara Apa, Rina Apa and others came to my home. The day will remain memorable for me,” Anna said.
Nuton and Dilara Yasmin previously worked together in films including Julum. Nuton also shared the screen with Sultana in films such as Sat Bhai Champa and Rasia Bondhu.
Anna, however, never had the opportunity to act in a film alongside Nuton, Sultana or Dilara Yasmin.
The gathering offered the veteran artistes a rare opportunity to reconnect and revisit memories from a shared chapter of Bangladesh’s film history.
