Yami Gautam received her first Indian National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 2024 film ‘Article 370’, calling the recognition a moment of immense pride and honour, reports Hindustan Times.
The 72nd Indian National Film Awards ceremony took place on Tuesday at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to Yami, while her husband and filmmaker Aditya Dhar watched from the audience.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Yami said she was still taking in the significance of the moment.
“I’m still trying to soak in this moment. It’s, it’s a great matter of pride and honour for any artist. Any film artist who’s worked all their life,” she said.
The actress also addressed aspiring actors who travel to Mumbai from different parts of the country hoping to build careers in the film industry.
“I say this, I’m sure, on behalf of all of us who have dreams, who come to the city with dreams. You don’t know what life has for you. You keep working hard, keep doing good work, and one day, this will happen for sure,” she said.
Yami added that the award has not made her feel that her journey is complete. She said she still has much to learn and many more roles to take on.
“I don’t know where I have reached. I have a lot to learn in my journey, lots of work to do. This is such a big honour in itself, and to receive it at a place with so much history is a matter of pride,” she said.
Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, ‘Article 370’ is a Hindi political action thriller inspired by events surrounding the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August 2019. Yami portrayed an intelligence officer in the film.
