Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a weather warning forecasting temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour over nine districts, including the capital, by Tuesday evening.
The affected areas are also likely to experience rain or thunder-showers during the period.
According to an inland river ports warning valid until 6:00pm on Tuesday, squally winds from the south or south-east may sweep across Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet.
In view of the forecast, inland river ports in these districts have been advised to hoist Cautionary Signal No 1.
In a separate bulletin, the Met Office said light to moderate rain or thunder-showers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, are likely across all divisions of the country until the evening.
It also warned that moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in some areas.
Meteorologists indicated that the prevailing unsettled weather condition could continue for several more days.
