Police recovered the body of a Chinese national from a hotel room in Uttara West on Saturday morning, with police suspecting that excessive alcohol consumption may have caused his death.
The deceased was identified as Li Xingqiang, aged around 40.
His body was recovered from room 905 of Bengal Hotel and Hospitality Ltd on Road 2, Plot 19, Sector 3 in Uttara.
Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khalid Mansur confirmed the incident.
He said police initially suspected that the man had died after consuming excessive amounts of alcohol.
Police and hotel staff also said excessive drinking was believed to have caused his death.
However, several officials of the Department of Narcotics Control confirmed that the hotel had no authorisation to sell or serve alcohol.
They said hotel guests were allegedly supplied with alcohol regularly from a nearby bar.
According to police, the Chinese national was found lying on the floor of room 905.
Three other Chinese nationals staying in rooms 404 and 406 of the same hotel — Guo Pengfei, Gao Zhenliang and Liu Haolin — noticed him and immediately informed the hotel authorities.
The hotel management then notified Uttara West Police Station.
Police went to the hotel and recovered the body.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated.
