Thakurgaon, where President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spent his childhood, is gearing up to welcome him on his first visit to his hometown since assuming the country’s highest constitutional office.

The alleys, markets, neighbourhoods and roads once familiar to him are being prepared for his arrival, with a festive atmosphere prevailing across the town.

Arches are being erected at different points and decorative lights installed, while administrative officials, employees, political leaders and activists are working round the clock. Municipal workers are also working day and night to clean and beautify the town ahead of the visit.

Residents are eagerly awaiting the President’s arrival, with curiosity and excitement growing alongside the extensive administrative preparations.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to arrive in his home district on Sunday for a two-day official visit.

The district administration has made extensive preparations for the state visit, while the public interest and emotion surrounding his return to his hometown have added to the occasion.

Security has also been tightened across the district. Members of the Special Security Force (SSF), President Guard Regiment (PGR) and intelligence agencies are working at the field level, while additional security measures have been put in place at scheduled venues, along travel routes and at other important locations.

Reception Committee Convener Dr Abu Md Khairul Kabir said the visit carried special significance for the people of Thakurgaon.

“He is not only the President, he is a son of Thakurgaon. After a long time, he is returning to his own people while holding the country’s highest constitutional post,” he said.

“His return is a moment of immense pride and emotion for us. We want the people of Thakurgaon to welcome him with love and respect,” he added.

District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin said the President’s first visit to his home district was a matter of joy, pride and emotion for the people of Thakurgaon.

He said the President had a longstanding emotional bond with the people of the district and that his visit had generated widespread enthusiasm among people from all walks of life.

A district administration official said all necessary preparations had been completed for the President’s visit.

“Work is being carried out in coordination with the relevant departments, agencies and law enforcement forces to ensure that every programme of the visit is completed smoothly, properly and without disruption,” he said.

Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain said the highest level of security measures had been taken across the district in view of the President’s visit.

“Every programme of the President’s visit, his travel routes and important locations are under security coverage,” he said.

Alongside ensuring the President’s security, authorities are also giving due importance to maintaining normal movement for residents and preserving the overall law and order situation during his visit.
