Daffodil International University (DIU) held its central orientation programme for newly admitted students of the Fall 2026 semester on Tuesday at its Daffodil Smart City campus in Ashulia, Dhaka. The day-long event introduced newcomers to the university’s academic environment, co-curricular activities, facilities and student services.
The programme was organised by the Office of the Students’ Affairs and featured welcome sessions, service booths, alumni experience sharing, student recognition and cultural performances to help new students begin their university journey.
Students were welcomed at the Swadhinata Shommelon Kendro with flowers and commemorative gifts from members of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), Air Rover Scouts and student volunteers. Different DIU clubs, along with the Office of International Affairs, Career Development Center, HRDI, Admission.AC, Skill.Jobs, GoEdu and DILC, set up booths to introduce their services and activities.
The formal session began with recitations from the Holy Quran and Bhagavad Gita, followed by the national anthem of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and DIU’s theme song. A documentary on the university was screened, while welcome messages from deans of different faculties were presented to the new students.
Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Kamal Pasha, Advisor, Office of the Students’ Affairs, DIU, delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Vice Chancellor of DIU, delivered a special address. Dr Md Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, welcomed the newcomers through a video message.
National cricket star and former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Mohammad Mushfiqur Rahim attended the programme as chief guest. He shared his experiences with students and encouraged them to pursue their goals with determination and confidence.
The programme also included an alumni experience-sharing session featuring Priya Rani Dey, Key Account Manager at SSLCommerz and alumna of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE); Md Farhad Hossain, Assistant Manager at ACI Motors Limited and alumnus of the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC); Md Sazzadur Rahman Shawon, Assistant Manager at Miyaki Media Limited and alumnus of the Department of Business Administration (BA); and Engineer Md Rezaul Karim, Founder and CEO of Sunpower Technology and alumnus of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE).
The alumni shared their academic experiences, professional journeys and career development insights with the newly admitted students.
The event also featured the ‘Meet the Achievers’ segment, where students who achieved outstanding success in different fields were honoured. Winners of various university sports competitions received prizes, which were handed over by Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Kamal Pasha.
The programme concluded with a photoshoot for newcomers in front of the Knowledge Tower, followed by a cultural programme featuring dance and other performances at the Swadhinata Shommelon Kendro.
DIU authorities said the orientation programme would help new students adjust to the university environment and support them in achieving their academic and career goals.
