Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday called upon students to keep their homes, educational institutions, and surrounding environment clean to prevent dengue.
He also advised them to participate in sports regularly alongside their studies, and to be caring and compassionate towards animals.
Tarique made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon during a meeting with students of Kalmakanda Girls’ High School, Netrokona, in front of the Prime Minister’s Office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament Building).
Addressing the students, Tarique said, “Every one of us must be aware to prevent dengue. We have to ensure that water does not accumulate anywhere in our homes and surroundings. Regular cleanliness can prevent the spread of dengue to a large extent”.
Urging them to start the habit of cleanliness within their own families, he added, “You must stay clean yourselves and raise awareness among your family members, friends, and neighbours. Your small initiatives will help build a clean and healthy society”.
During the meeting, the prime minister enquired about the students’ education, asking which classes they study in, how they perform their studies, and what they aspire to be in the future.
Emphasising the importance of sports for physical and mental development, Tarique said, “Focusing only on textbooks is not enough; to grow up healthy and beautiful, one must play sports and exercise regularly.
“One must make proper use of time and build oneself as a good human being.”
Calling for compassion towards animals, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, “We must be caring towards the helpless and mute animals around us. No animal should be treated cruelly. Kindness and responsibility towards animals is the identity of a humane society.”
A total of 42 students from Classes VI to X visited the Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday to watch the parliamentary session. They were accompanied by five teachers and two members of the school’s managing committee.
During their visit to the parliament session, they received the opportunity to meet Tarique.
The students expressed immense joy and excitement at getting the opportunity to speak directly with the prime minister. They expressed their eagerness to follow Tarique’s advice in their own lives, as well as to spread it among their families, school, and local community.
