‘Starlog’, the magazine once known for its coverage of science fiction and geek culture, will return with a new issue on 13 November, 17 years after publishing its final edition in April 2009.

Launched in 1976, the magazine built a following through its news and interviews on science fiction and fantasy, particularly ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars’. Across its original 33-year run, it published 374 issues spanning more than 25,000 pages.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the revived magazine will publish annually under editor-in-chief Annalee Newitz, a founding editor of ‘io9’. Alongside its traditional film and television coverage, the new edition will explore futurism and scientific possibilities, including the prospect of growing crops on planets beyond Earth.

“Science fiction and fantasy give us a sandbox to reimagine our world, and Starlog is your invitation to play along,” Newitz said in a statement, adding that the revival would honour the magazine’s fan-driven legacy while exploring humanity’s possible futures.

The relaunch also includes a podcast hosted by journalist Jordan Hoffman and a weekly newsletter, Lodestar. Fangoria Holdings, which owns ‘Fangoria’ and ‘Gorezone’, is behind the revival.

Co-owner Tara Ansley said the magazine’s return comes at a time when the boundaries between science fiction and reality are becoming increasingly blurred. She added that, despite technological changes, the questions surrounding humanity and its future remain central to the publication.
