Nine more people died of dengue and 1,571 were hospitalised across the country in the past 24 hours, the highest daily figures this year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the figures in its daily bulletin on Tuesday.
With the latest figures, the number of dengue patients hospitalised nationwide since 1 January has risen to 45,475, while the death toll has reached 130.
Currently, 3,218 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country. So far, 42,127 patients have recovered and been discharged.
Dhaka Division, excluding the city corporation areas, recorded the highest number of hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 408 patients.
Khulna reported 242 admissions, followed by Dhaka North City Corporation with 196, Chattogram Division with 177, Barishal with 142 and Dhaka South City Corporation with 134.
Rajshahi reported 116 new admissions, Mymensingh 77, Rangpur 71 and Sylhet eight.
The distribution of new patients suggests that dengue is no longer confined to Dhaka, with the disease spreading across different regions of the country.
Of the nine deaths reported in the past 24 hours, three were from Dhaka South City Corporation. Dhaka Division outside the city corporations and Khulna each reported two deaths, while Barishal and Mymensingh recorded one death each.
September deaths surge
Dengue cases have risen sharply this month, with 9,629 patients hospitalised and 33 deaths recorded in the first eight days of September.
In comparison, August saw 20,536 hospital admissions and 43 deaths.
The 33 deaths recorded in just eight days of September account for nearly 77 percent of the deaths reported throughout August. Hospital admissions during the first eight days of September have also reached nearly 47 percent of August’s total.
Women account for more deaths
Although men make up the majority of dengue patients, women account for a larger share of deaths, according to DGHS data.
Of the 45,475 patients hospitalised between 1 January and 8 September, 62.2 per cent were men and 37.8 per cent were women.
Women, however, accounted for 55.4 per cent of the 130 deaths, compared with 44.6 per cent for men.
Men also accounted for most new admissions in the past 24 hours, making up 63.1 per cent of patients, while women accounted for 36.9 per cent.
Of the nine people who died during the period, five were men and four were women.
The DGHS said people aged 16 to 30 constituted the largest age group among dengue patients this year.
