Legendary actress Babita is currently in Toronto, Canada, where she is spending quality time with her only son, Anik, while several filmmakers in Bangladesh are waiting for her return to discuss potential projects.

A few directors who are planning to make films featuring Babita have recently been trying to reach her.

They wanted to narrate their stories to the veteran actress and discuss the characters they hope she will portray.

However, the filmmakers learnt that Babita is currently not in Dhaka. She travelled to Canada to spend time with her son and has been enjoying a quieter life away from her busy schedule in Bangladesh.

During her stay, Babita also met Bappi, the second son of legendary actor Rajjak, who was one of her most successful co-stars throughout her career. The two spent some time together in Toronto.

Babita travelled to Canada towards the end of July.

Earlier in August, she attended the Ananda Mela Award 2026 programme, organised on the initiative of Khan Mohammad Ali, where she received a lifetime achievement award.

She then spent another two or three days in the United States before returning to Canada.

Asked how she has been spending her time in Toronto and when she might return to Bangladesh, Babita said she remains content whether she is at home or abroad.

“Whether I am in Canada or in Bangladesh, I always manage to spend my time well. When I am in Bangladesh, I stay busy with different activities. In Canada, however, I get to spend lovely time with my son,” she said.

“I cook Anik’s favourite dishes. Sometimes we watch films or I read storybooks. At other times, we go out together. There are many other ways I spend my time, and it has been wonderful.”

Speaking about meeting Bappi, she said, “I met Bappi, the second son of our beloved actor Rajjak. It was wonderful to see him, and we spent some beautiful time together.”

Babita added that although nothing compares to being in one’s own country, she enjoys being in Toronto because her son lives there.

“Your own country is always your own country. Nothing can really compare with it. But since my son is here in Toronto, I also love spending time with him,” she said.

Meanwhile, a special birthday song titled Our Dream Girl was released on Babita’s birthday on 30 July.

The song was initiated by Abhi Moinuddin, with lyrics by Omar Faruk and music composed by Shan Shaik.

It was released through the The Best 24 YouTube channel and has already received more than 40,000 views.

Babita has also had a remarkable year professionally.

She was awarded the Ekushey Padak 2026, one of Bangladesh’s highest civilian honours. She was also honoured with the Ma Padak 2026, organised by the Ali-Rupa Foundation.
