Bangladesh Television (BTV) has reconstituted its committee responsible for reviewing privately produced programmes before they are aired.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued a notification on 9 September through its TV-2 branch, restructuring the committee originally formed on 10 December, 2014.
The new 15-member committee is headed by BTV Director General Kazi Jesin.
Its members include the TV-2 deputy secretary of the ministry, cultural activist Sabrina Binte Amin, actors Shahed Sharif Khan, Shahed Ali and M Salam Sumon, dancer and choreographer Farhana Chowdhury Baby, filmmaker-actor-producer Khaled Ahmed Salehin, playwright-director-producer Kazi Md Khalilur Rahman, media worker Kamrul Hasan Darpan, cultural activist Khaled Enam Muna, actress-filmmakers Irene and Jiasmin Akter Jahan, and filmmaker Adnan Azad.
BTV’s Director of Programmes and Planning will serve as the committee’s member secretary.
The committee will assess privately produced programmes and recommend whether they are suitable for broadcast. If the BTV director general is absent, a designated representative will chair the meeting.
A quorum will require eight members. The committee will hold meetings according to BTV’s existing rules.
No committee member may be directly or indirectly involved in producing programmes made for BTV under government initiatives.
However, members may participate in BTV’s own programmes with approval from the committee chair.
If a committee position becomes vacant, the BTV director general may propose a new member.
