Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested 14 fishermen and seized an illegal artisanal fibre trawling boat in Bhola.
Acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Outpost Charmanika near Maya Bridge in Ahmedpur, under Char Fasson upazila. The operation took place from 1:00am to 4:00pm on Wednesday.
During the operation, the Coast Guard seized the boat and recovered four trawling nets, two wings, one derrick, two trawl doors and other trawling equipment.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the information on Wednesday evening. He said legal procedures regarding the seized boat, equipment and arrested fishermen are currently underway.
He added that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect fisheries resources, said a press release.
