Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has urged students to develop themselves as honest, ethical and compassionate individuals with strong human values.
He made the call at a merit scholarship award ceremony held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital on Saturday.
The scholarships were awarded to children of police personnel who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC, HSC and equivalent examinations in 2024 and 2025.
“Merit helps people move forward. But honesty, humanity and ethical values make a person truly great. So it is not enough to be a good student; you must also become a good person,” the IGP said.
He also advised students to stay away from drugs and avoid excessive dependence on mobile phones, social media and internet games.
“You will use technology. But you must be careful not to let technology use you,” he said.
A total of 2,113 students received Bangladesh Police merit scholarships over the past two years.
Of them, 360 students based in Dhaka were formally awarded their scholarships at Saturday’s ceremony. The remaining recipients will receive their scholarships through the offices of the respective district superintendents of police.
In 2024, 801 students received scholarships for their SSC results and 272 for their HSC results.
In 2025, scholarships were awarded to 845 SSC students and 195 HSC students.
