A special ‘Green Channel’ has been launched at Kunming Huaxia Eye Hospital in China to simplify access to advanced eye care for Bangladeshi patients.
The service allows patients to receive medical consultations and have their treatment records reviewed before travelling to China. It also offers priority hospital appointments, a dedicated international desk, interpreter support and follow-up care after patients return to Bangladesh.
It is the first specialised healthcare mechanism of its kind for Bangladeshi eye patients in southwestern China.
The service was inaugurated on Saturday by Shahnaz Ranu, Consul General of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming, who unveiled the ‘Green Channel’ plaque. She also inaugurated the ‘Huaxia Ophthalmology International Forum 2026’ on the same day.
Redwanur Rahman, First Secretary (Commercial) of the Bangladesh Consulate General, and Zhang Zhiyong, Vice President of Huaxia Eye Hospital, attended the event.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shahnaz Ranu highlighted Bangladesh’s progress in public healthcare and the achievements of domestic eye care institutions. She stressed the importance of ensuring international-standard treatment, patient safety, transparent costs, fair pricing and patient dignity.
“Ensuring quality and safe medical care for Bangladeshi patients, maintaining transparency in treatment costs, and upholding patient dignity are the primary expectations of the Bangladesh Consulate General,” she said.
She urged Huaxia Hospital to expand treatment opportunities for Bangladeshi patients in China and help strengthen Bangladesh’s eye care system through training for ophthalmologists and nurses, tele-consultation services and partnerships with local eye care institutions.
The initiative aims to improve access to advanced eye treatment in China while promoting training and institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and China in eye care.
