Police have detained 11 people, including four minors, during a special drive against drugs, juvenile gangs and criminal activities in Amtali on Friday evening.
Amtali Police Station personnel conducted raids at Bottola, Gorur Bazar and Launch Ghat in the municipal town from the evening until 9:30pm.
Officer-in-charge Md Yakub Hossain confirmed the detentions, saying the suspects were picked up for screening and verification. The four minors are under 18, while the other seven are aged between 18 and 25.
Police will take legal action after completing the verification process, he said, adding that operations against extortion, drugs and juvenile gangs would continue.
OC Yakub said police had been directed to take effective measures to rid Amtali of these crimes within the next two months.
Earlier, on 19 October, Chief Whip of the National Parliament Nurul Islam Moni directed the superintendent of police to make every upazila in Barguna free from extortion, drugs and juvenile gangs during a meeting at the Patharghata upazila parishad conference room.
