Singer and former Bangladesh Cricket Board director Asif Akbar has long made it clear that he feels deeply attached to his homeland. Following the recent shooting at his car in Dhaka, a past conversation in which he rejected the idea of settling in the United States has resurfaced on social media.

New York-based Bangladeshi-American content creator Pricila Naznin Fatema recently shared the memory in a social media post.

Priscilla recalled advising Asif to settle in the United States. According to her, he responded that Bangladesh was his country and America held no special appeal for him.

“ I told Uncle Asif Akbar to settle in America. He replied, ‘Bangladesh is my country. America does not attract me,’” she wrote alongside a photograph with the singer.

Pricila also extended her best wishes to Asif.

The post gained renewed attention after unidentified attackers fired at the singer’s private car in front of Bishal Centre in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area early on Saturday, 24 October. Asif was not inside the vehicle at the time and escaped unharmed.

Asif had previously referred to Pricila as the daughter of a friend in a social media post in March this year.
