Bangladesh added Soumya Sarkar to their T20 squad before the three match series against Australia as concern grows over captain Litton Das’ fitness. The series starts in Chattogram on Wednesday and selectors moved after Litton suffered a muscle strain during the final ODI.

Litton had to stop batting after he felt discomfort during the match. He later returned because of the team’s situation but did not take the field again. He also left the ground with a visible limp after the match. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has not issued an official medical update on the captain.

Tuesday’s BCB media release confirmed Soumya’s inclusion in the squad. If Litton cannot recover in time for the opening match, the left hander could move straight into Bangladesh’s top order.

The 33-year-old has not held a regular place in Bangladesh’s T20 side in recent months. He missed recent series and last played a T20 international during the West Indies tour in 2024. Soumya has scored 1,462 runs across 87 T20 internationals.

Bangladesh’s squad for the Australia T20 series
