A transport worker was attacked with a sharp weapon and robbed of TK90,000 in Shyampur, Dhaka, on early Tuesday.
The injured man, Md Golam Kibria, 45, is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Dhaka Medical Police Camp in-charge Md Faruk confirmed the incident.
The incident occurred around 3:30am in front of Jurain Sheikh Kamal Govt High School on Khondkar Road, Shyampur.
According to his colleague, Mehedi Hasan, Kibria is an employee of Banshal Borak Transport and lives in Shyampur Alambag. At night, goods from Chattogram arrived in Dhaka for the transport company. After unloading the cargo, Kibria hired a vehicle and then took a rickshaw to return home. On the way three robbers blocked his rickshaw.
Threating him with a sharp weapon, they snatched Tk90,000 and a mobile phone from him. When he tried to resist, the robbers stabbed him in his left hand and fled.
Responding to the scene, locals took Kibria to a nearby hospital before he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College around 5am. He remains under treatment in the hospital’s emergency department.
Police Camp in-charge Md Faruk said Kibria is undergoing treatment and Shyampur police have been notified of the incident.
