Locals rescued him and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, but he died on the way.

Sudarshan Kumar Roy, deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police, said police recovered a spent bullet casing and a live round from the scene.

He said Jalil had a drug-related case filed against him with the police station.

“Preliminarily, we suspect that the killing may have originated from a dispute over drugs,” the police official said.

Police have launched a drive to arrest those involved in the killing, he added.

According to police, 30 murders have taken place in Khulna city so far this year. Investigations into only three of those cases have been completed.
