Financial Excellence Ltd (FinExcel) has appointed Selim Barkat as chairman of the company.
Selim brings nearly four decades of leadership experience in banking and financial services in Bangladesh and the United States, with expertise in strategic leadership, corporate governance, risk management, transaction banking, treasury and capital markets, reads a press release.
Most recently, he served as regional general manager of Habib Bank Limited (HBL) for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, where he led the bank’s strategic transformation in the South Asia region.
Earlier, he held senior positions at Citibank and Citigroup in Bangladesh and New York, working in global business management and later as a portfolio banker covering credit and counterparty-risk portfolios for investment banks, broker-dealers, financial market intermediaries and the North American insurance industry.
He also played a pivotal role in establishing Citibank NA’s first branch in Bangladesh.
As chairman, Selim brings extensive international banking experience, strategic vision and a strong commitment to risk management and governance to FinExcel.
He holds an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers Business School, Rutgers University, USA.
