A 35‑year‑old man was shot in the capital’s Uttar Badda area on Saturday night.
The victim, Md Rana, son of late Abdur Rob, is from Maijdee in Noakhali. He has been living in Kazibari, Natun Bazar under Vatara Police Station, and works as a driver.
Rana said he had gone to his brother Joy’s house at Moynarbagh behind Hossain Market in the afternoon. Around 10pm, someone knocked on the door. When asked who it was, there was no reply, UNB reports.
Joy opened the door, found no one outside, and moved towards the main entrance. At that moment, Tamim and two others entered through an inner door, verbally abused Rana, and shot him in the right leg above the knee.
The attackers fled immediately. Rana alleged that Tamim, a resident of the same area, was the shooter.
He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Relatives claimed Tamim had demanded extortion from a business owned by Rana’s elder brother. They said Rana told him no money would be paid, and suspected the shooting was linked to that refusal.
Inspector Habibur Rahman, in‑charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the matter had been reported to the police station concerned.
