David Harbour has exited an upcoming film project, choosing to take time off following the intense production and global promotion surrounding the final season of ‘Stranger Things’. The actor was set to appear in ‘Behemoth!’, a film directed by Andor creator Tony Gilroy and also starring Pedro Pascal and Olivia Wilde. According to its synopsis, the project aims to celebrate the craft of filmmaking and the people behind the scenes.
Industry sources told Variety that Harbour decided to leave the film after feeling overwhelmed by the lengthy shoot and extended international rollout of Stranger Things. The final season involved months of production, sustained media attention and heavy promotional demands, prompting the actor to prioritise rest.
Searchlight Pictures, which is distributing Behemoth!, confirmed Harbour’s departure from the project. The actor has not publicly commented on the decision.
Harbour has remained in the public eye for much of the past year beyond his work commitments. In October, his partner Lily Allen released the album ‘West End Girl’, which she said was inspired by the breakdown of their relationship. One track in particular sparked online discussion for its portrayal of a fictional character implied to be linked to an affair.
In recent months, Harbour also found himself the subject of media speculation involving his Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown. Reports of a complaint and internal inquiry surfaced in November, though Brown later dismissed suggestions of tension, describing the experience of working together on the show’s final season as positive.
As Harbour steps back from new projects, his decision highlights the physical and emotional toll of fronting one of television’s biggest global franchises. Further casting updates for Behemoth! are expected in the coming weeks.
