Long queues of candidates were seen at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in Agargaon on Friday as the deadline for filing appeals against the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election expired.
From early Friday morning, aspiring candidates gathered at the EC building to submit appeals challenging decisions made by returning officers.
The rush continued throughout the day, causing congestion on the commission’s premises.
According to EC officials, the appeal process, which began on 5 January, has so far received approximately 550 applications.
A majority of the appellants have cited complications related to the requirement of signatures from one per cent of registered voters, as well as issues in the verification process.
The Election Commission is set to begin hearings on the appeals on 10 January, with proceedings scheduled to continue until 18 January, officials said.
