The Red Sea International Film Festival has postponed its sixth edition, originally scheduled for December in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, until the fourth quarter of 2027, writes African News.
The Red Sea Film Foundation announced the decision on Monday, citing the timing and logistical demands of organising an international event of its scale.
The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions, including missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The foundation did not directly link the postponement to the security situation.
The festival is one of Saudi Arabia’s major international cultural events, attracting filmmakers, actors and industry professionals from around the world.
Its year-round initiatives, including the Red Sea Fund and Red Sea Labs, will continue. The foundation also plans to begin programming at Culture Square in Historic Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in November.
The festival forms part of Saudi Arabia’s wider efforts to expand its entertainment and cultural industries, with major investments in film, gaming and sports under its economic transformation plans.
