The government has increased the fares of metropolitan, inter-district, and long-distance buses and minibuses by 17 paisa per kilometre against the backdrop of rising fuel prices.
The Road Transport and Highways Division of the ministry issued a gazette notification on this effect on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the fare per passenger per kilometre for buses operating in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas has been raised from Tk2.53 to Tk2.70.
For buses and minibuses operating on inter-district and long-distance routes, the fare per passenger per kilometre has been increased from Tk2.23 to Tk2.40.
Additionally, fares have been hiked for minibuses running in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, as well as buses and minibuses operating within the districts under the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), namely Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Manikganj, and Dhaka.
In these cases, the fare per passenger per kilometre has been revised from Tk2.43 to Tk2.60.
At the same time, the minimum fare for buses and minibuses operating in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas has been set at Tk10 and Tk8, respectively.
