The Ministry of Education has directed installation of rooftop solar panels at suitable places of all educational institutions to achieve the government’s fixed target for on-grid solar power generation.

The directive was given in an order sent from the ministry’s Secondary and Higher Education Division to the concerned parties on 23 September.

The order stated that, in light of the circular issued by the Cabinet Division to ensure greater use of solar power in government offices, the Power Division has set a target for on-grid solar power generation.

To implement that target, all educational institutions across the country must install rooftop solar power systems at their own suitable installations under the ‘OpEx’ model with private investment or from the institution’s own funds.

The education ministry said instructions have already been issued for extensive use of solar power at key government offices, including Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Planning Commission and the Finance Division.

In continuation of that, other government offices and educational institutions must ensure maximum use of solar power in phases.
