An attack and vandalism occurred at Islami Bank Hospital in the city’s Motijheel area on Monday night.
A group consisting of relatives of a deceased patient and 15 to 20 local individuals entered the ground floor of hospital building and vandalised the premises.
According to local sources, a 22-year-old dengue patient died at the hospital two days prior. Claiming that the death was caused by medical negligence, the accused demanded Tk10 lakh from the hospital authorities.
They launched the attack on the ground floor after the money was not paid.
Several hospital officers and employees were injured during the rampage. Following the incident, hospital officials were reportedly left confined inside the premises.
Motijheel Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rezwanul Islam confirmed that an attack and vandalism had taken place at the hospital, though he stated that the precise cause behind the attack was not yet known.
“We working on bringing the situation under control,” ADC Rezwanul Islam said, adding that further details would be shared later.
