Bangladesh all rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz believes the return of the Third Division Qualifying Cricket League will give young players across the country a chance to show their talent.
Miraz spoke at the inauguration of the competition on Saturday, where he also recalled starting his own Dhaka cricket journey from the qualifiers.
“My cricket journey started in 2009. I played for CCS and started from the qualifiers. I have played at every level of the Dhaka leagues, from the qualifiers to Third Division, Second Division, First Division and Premier League,” Miraz said.
The 28 year old welcomed the return of the competition after a long break and praised the Bangladesh Cricket Board for bringing it back.
“It feels really good that after a long time a qualifying competition like this has started again. I want to give credit to the cricket board for organising it properly,” he said.
Miraz said the competition would bring together players from different parts of Bangladesh. He recalled sharing rooms and experiences with cricketers from Rangpur, Sylhet, Khulna and Bogura during his early days.
He also urged the players to make the most of the opportunity, with selectors set to follow their performances.
“I believe many players from among you will become Bangladesh’s next generation. You will lead Bangladesh in the future,” Miraz said.
“If you can perform, everyone will have their eyes on you. The selectors and the Bangladesh Cricket Board will watch the matches and assess your performances.”
Miraz believes strong performances in the competition could benefit both the players and Bangladesh cricket in the future.
