Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has achieved joint second place among Bangladeshi universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027.
The university’s international position is in the 1001-1200 band.
THE published the rankings on its website on Wednesday, said a press release on Thursday.
Universities were assessed on five criteria- teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement and international outlook. In the teaching quality metric, GAU ranked second among all public and private universities in Bangladesh.
This year’s rankings assessed 2,297 universities from 118 countries and regions.
GAU has recorded recent success in several international rankings. It was champion at the first Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026, competing against all public and private universities in the country. In the Sustainability Impact Rating 2026, it ranked first among Bangladeshi public universities. In the same rating, GAU placed 82nd globally on the SDG-1 (No Poverty) index, 66th on SDG-2 (Zero Hunger) and in the 101-200 range on SDG-4 (Quality Education).
In the THE World University Rankings 2025 and 2026, GAU placed first among Bangladeshi public and private universities in various metrics.
In the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, it was the only Bangladeshi public university to rank, placing 23rd globally in the Financial Impact Driven Technology Transfer category. In the QS World University Sustainability Rankings 2026, GAU ranked first among Bangladeshi agricultural universities.
GAU Vice-Chancellor GKM Mostafizur Rahman said, “The university’s continued progress in international rankings is recognition of the collective efforts of the university family. Achieving second place among the country’s public and private universities in quality teaching is particularly important for us.”
