The student movement at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) demanding the reinstatement of Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem rolled into its 10th day on Thursday.
An “all-out shutdown” programme continued, alongside a protest photo exhibition and a concert organized as part of the day’s events.
From Thursday morning, students took up positions at the university’s main gate to enforce the “complete shutdown.” Consequently, classes, laboratory work, examinations, and all other academic activities remained suspended.
Meanwhile, teachers, officers, and employees of the university observed a work abstention for the fifth consecutive day.
Teachers staged a sit-in in front of the vice-chancellor’s building from 11am as part of the abstention, with officers and employees joining the same programme.
As part of the movement, a protest photo exhibition was held in front of the vice-chancellor’s building from 5:30pm to 8pm. It showcased photographs capturing key moments of the movement and various instances of student protest.
Later, a protest concert was held at the same venue from 6pm, where students highlighted their demands and grievances through songs and cultural performances.
Speaking at the event, Moumita Dutta Priya, a third-year student from the Department of Civil Engineering said, “Memories from various stages of the movement and moments of students’ protests were highlighted through the photo exhibition.”
“In addition, students expressed their demands and feelings through the protest concert. We will peacefully continue this movement until our demands are met,” she added.
The “all-out shutdown”at Cuet has been ongoing since 22 September.
To press for the reinstatement of Professor Sayem, students have previously observed a series of protest programmes, including torch processions, showing red cards, and forming human chains.
