State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury on Wednesday challenged ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina to return to Bangladesh immediately instead of December if she had the courage to face the situation.
“Not in December — if you have the courage, come now. You want to challenge us? You have left our mothers and sisters bereaved. Come, come to hang from the gallows,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks while addressing a rally organised to protest what the organisers described as anarchy and planned acts of terrorism by the Awami League, whose activities have been banned.
Yasser said any attempt to create unrest and carry out acts of terrorism would be dealt with firmly.
“We have led from the streets. We have restored democracy and people’s right to vote. Under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we have returned voting rights to the people,” he said.
He alleged that authoritarian forces had fled the country and were conspiring to disrupt Bangladesh’s democratic process.
“We have confronted those conspiracies and broken their structure. None of their conspiracies will be allowed to succeed,” he said.
Yasser said the BNP remained united across the country and would continue the democratic process and development journey with public support.
Referring to the recent incidents of setting fire to two buses, he said no one would be allowed to create instability in the country.
Earlier, a protest procession was brought out from in front of the district BNP office in Rathkhola area of the city.
The procession passed through several important roads before ending at Kalibari intersection, where the rally was held.
District BNP General Secretary and Kishoreganj-1 constituency MP Md Mazharul Islam and Kishoreganj-2 constituency MP Md Jalal Uddin addressed the rally.
Leaders and activists from different levels of the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations took part in the protest procession.
