Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, the celebrated guitarist, songwriter and founding member of Warfaze, has announced a temporary withdrawal from musical activities, citing burnout and ongoing health concerns. The veteran musician shared the update through a candid post on his personal Facebook account, where he asked fans to respect his need for rest after nearly four decades of continuous work.
Kamal wrote that he had performed, recorded and rehearsed almost non-stop across multiple periods between 1986 and 2024. He said the prolonged schedule had left him exhausted, sick, irritating and tired, adding that he felt burnt out and would not be taking part in any future music-related commitments for the time being.
He noted that he is currently slowing down under the advice of his wife, who is a doctor, and asked audiences not to expect any return to the stage before next Eid. “I am 57, I deserve this,” he wrote, emphasising that he has done his part in serving Bangladesh’s music scene and now needs a six-month break. He assured followers that he would remain active online, interacting with fans and sharing updates, but would not entertain requests for performances.
The announcement comes only days after Kamal teased a separate creative project. In an earlier post, he shared photographs from the early Warfaze era and revealed plans for “The story of Kalabagan Lake Circus. 1978–1987”, suggesting work on a personal historical account.
Responding to comments beneath the post, Kamal hinted that the project may take the form of a written memoir. He said the story was based on true events and required careful verification before publication. He added that he was in the process of scanning rare photographs from the period and cross-checking details, asking fans for patience as he documented many stories of happiness and sorrows from Kalabagan during 1978–1987.
Kamal’s updates have prompted an outpouring of support from fans and peers within the music community, many encouraging him to take the time he needs to recover while expressing anticipation for the forthcoming narrative project.
Warfaze, formed in 1984, is widely regarded as a pioneer of Bangladeshi rock and heavy metal, and Kamal remains one of the most influential guitarists in the country’s music history. His temporary retreat marks a significant pause for an artist whose work has shaped generations of listeners.
