A young man was killed in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday evening allegedly after seeking his share of his mother’s property, with the attack blamed on his maternal uncle.
The incident occurred in the Bachha Mia’s Ghona area of Rumaliarchhara in the town, where Nurul Amin Munna, a local resident, was attacked, according to the family.
Family members said Munna had an altercation with his grandmother over land about a month ago, and following that dispute, his maternal uncle Hamid Ullah and several others allegedly assaulted him with sharp weapons on Thursday evening.
Local people rescued Munna and rushed him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Speaking in front of the hospital morgue, a young woman named Kajol said she and Munna were scheduled to get married on Friday after a long relationship, adding that she was also injured while trying to save him during the attack.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shamim Uddin said Munna’s body was recovered and kept at the hospital morgue, and police were investigating the motive behind the killing and those involved.
A police source said Munna, from the Samity Bazar area of Rumaliarchhara, had been involved in criminal activities and was accused in multiple cases, adding that he had been detained several times with locally made weapons and that media reports had previously been published about him.
