Administrators from 33 district councils across the country made a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Sunday afternoon, presenting various demands including an elevation of their official status.
The information was disclosed by the President’s Press Wing.
Addressing the administrators, Fakhrul stressed the necessity of breaking away from the corruption left behind by the fascist regime and urged them to remain active and vigilant in their duties.
He highlighted the local government system as the greatest strength of democracy, noting that strengthening local governance is essential to institutionalise and fortify democratic processes.
Fakhrul noted that the government is giving serious priority to empowering the local government system in order to decentralise power. He recalled with gratitude the active participation of the district council administrators in the long-standing movement against fascism and for the restoration of democracy.
Reassuring the administrators regarding their demands, Fakhrul affirmed that the current administration is a people’s government and promised that prompt measures would be taken to resolve their issues.
Additionally, Fakhrul issued necessary directives to the administrators to accelerate developmental activities across district councils, ensure civic services at the local level, and maintain administrative transparency.
