Ten Bangladeshis who were rescued alive by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) after a trawler capsized in the Padma River near the Chapainawabganj border were handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The incident occurred Saturday evening when a boat carrying 12 passengers sank mid‑river after leaving Alimnagar Ghat in Bakherali for Jahurpurtek village.
One passenger, Md Wasim, 23, swam ashore, while 11 others went missing. BSF later rescued 10 of them — four men, three women and three children.
Later, BGB Battalion 53 took steps to bring the passengers back to Bangladesh. At 9:55pm, a company‑level flag meeting was held between the commander of Faridpur BOP and the commander of BSF’s Khandua camp. Following the meeting, the 10 rescued Bangladeshis were returned to Bangladesh.
BGB confirmed all were in good health.
The rescued are Md Russel, 26; Md Ibrahim, 50; Saudagar, 40; Md Ibrahim, 60; Sokhina, 45; Nilufa, 35; Tania, 22, and her 20‑day‑old infant; Sanaullah, 9; and Al Amin, 9. All are residents of Jahurpur (Bakripara) village in Chapainawabganj.
Meanwhile, Md Mostafa, 60, son of late Altab Hossain of the same village, remains missing. Search efforts are continuing.
