Two crude bombs exploded near the route of an 11-party alliance’s long march in Khulna on Saturday afternoon, shortly before the motorcade passed through the area. No casualties were reported.
The explosions occurred around 3:30 pm in front of the Shaheed Minar at Fulbarigate, as vehicles taking part in the long march were travelling from Shibbari intersection towards a street rally in Phultala upazila.
According to eyewitnesses, a public rally was under way at Shibbari intersection when several vehicles from the motorcade headed towards Phultala.
After some vehicles had crossed Fulbarigate, two crude bombs exploded in quick succession on the road in front of the Shaheed Minar, before the remaining vehicles reached the spot.
A third crude bomb remained unexploded.
The blasts sparked panic among people standing along both sides of the road, prompting them to flee. The situation returned to normal after police arrived.
Police subsequently recovered the unexploded bomb.
Khanjahan Ali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abul Bashar said police were working to identify those responsible for the explosions.
He confirmed that an unexploded crude bomb had been recovered from the scene and said no formal complaint had been lodged with the police station so far.
