Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has held discussions with energy giant Chevron regarding prospective investments in exploring new gas fields, alongside Bangladesh’s existing fields.
A high-level delegation led by Javier La Rosa, President of Base Assets and Emerging Countries at Chevron, paid a courtesy call on Tarique at the Secretariat on Sunday.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting focused on overall investment in Bangladesh’s energy sector, with particular emphasis on expanding investment in existing gas fields and exploring new fields.
The meeting was attended by Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, adviser to the prime minister on Finance and Planning; Anindya Islam Amit, state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Shu Xiong, president and managing director of Chevron Bangladesh; and other relevant senior officials.
Feni visit rescheduled
Tarique’s pre-scheduled visit to Feni on 17 September has been postponed. Under a new tentative schedule, he will now visit Feni on 1 October.
Feni Deputy Commissioner Md Mahbubul Karim confirmed the schedule change on Sunday afternoon, stating that the visit was moved due to the Prime Minister’s engagement with important state programmes.
Despite the postponement, preparatory activities in Parshuram and Fulgazi are continuing. The venue is being readied for the inauguration of the Muhuri-Kahua flood control and drainage project, and the Special Security Force (SSF) has already inspected the proposed site.
Additional works, including the construction of a helipad on the grounds of Parshuram Model Government Pilot School, road repairs, and beautification projects, are currently in progress.
Local Member of Parliament Munshi Rofiqul Alam Majnu noted that the postponement has not dampened enthusiasm among party leaders and activists, adding that a historic rally will take place in Feni on 1 October.
