Six more people died of dengue in the country in the past 24 hours, while 1,561 patients were admitted to hospitals with the viral disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths have taken the country’s dengue death toll this year to 149.
The data were reported by the DGHS Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room in its daily update on Sunday.
The highest number of new patients, 307, was reported from areas outside the city corporations in Dhaka division.
Khulna recorded 275 admissions, followed by Barishal with 202, Chattogram 181, Dhaka North City Corporation 176 and Dhaka South City Corporation 144.
Another 104 patients were admitted in Rajshahi, 93 in Mymensingh, 73 in Rangpur and six in Sylhet.
Of the six deaths reported in the latest 24-hour period, two were from Chattogram division and two from Khulna.
One each was reported from areas outside the city corporations in Dhaka division and Mymensingh division.
Between 1 January and 13 September, a total of 51,837 dengue cases were reported across the country, according to DGHS data.
Men accounted for 62.4 per cent of the infections and women 37.6 per cent.
However, women made up a larger share of the deaths.
Of the 149 fatalities recorded so far, 51.4 per cent were women and 48.6 per cent were men.
People aged 16 to 30 recorded the highest proportion of dengue infections this year.
Meanwhile, 1,394 dengue patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.
A total of 48,093 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals since the beginning of the year.
As of Sunday, 3,595 dengue patients were undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country.
