Democratic candidate Josh Turek is projected to win the Iowa Senate seat, giving the Democrats a 51-member majority in the US Senate so far, according to American broadcaster CBS.
The projected victory in Iowa further strengthens the Democratic Party’s position in the upper chamber as results continue to emerge from the 2026 US midterm elections, reports BBC.
Commenting on the political implications, BBC North America Editor Sarah Smith said Democratic control of both chambers of Congress could significantly affect the final two years of Donald Trump’s presidency.
