The National Citizen Party (NCP) has formally announced Nasiruddin Patwary as its mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain for Dhaka North City Corporation.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam, also the chief whip of the opposition in parliament, made the announcement on Sunday afternoon at a meeting with prospective councillor candidates from different wards of the two city corporations at the party office.
The announcement marks the party’s formal entry into the mayoral races for the two Dhaka city corporations.
The meeting focused on the party’s organisational preparations for the elections, particularly at the ward level.
Discussions included identifying potential councillor candidates and assessing local civic problems.
Nahid also directed party leaders to maintain regular contact with the families of those killed and injured during the July uprising.
He instructed party activists to closely monitor any “sabotage” by the Awami League and build ward-level resistance against such activities.
The meeting also discussed launching movements over civic issues affecting residents.
NCP senior joint convener and Dhaka North unit convener Ariful Islam Adib, Dhaka South unit convener Ishaq Sarkar, and other leaders of the two city units attended the meeting, along with the two mayoral candidates.
