Jamaat-e-Islami has revoked the party memberships (rukniyat) of two former senior leaders of its Cumilla city unit following violent factional clashes, crude bomb detonations, and vandalism at its Cumilla city office last month.
The expelled figures are former Cumilla city Jamaat ameer Kazi Deen Mohammad and former nayeb-e-ameer AKM Emdadul Haque Mamun. The information was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, following recommendations from a high-level central investigation panel.
The internal crisis erupted on 14 October during a meeting to discuss the formation of a new local committee.
The dispute rapidly degenerated into physical altercations, culminating in a rooftop crude bomb explosion and damage to the personal vehicle of city unit secretary Mahbubur Rahman before police intervened.
In response to the unrest, the central leadership took swift organisational action on 17 October by invoking Article 63 of the party constitution to dissolve the Cumilla city unit’s executive committee and leadership council. Maulana Abdul Halim was appointed to oversee local operations directly.
The central executive council subsequently convened on 26 October under the chairmanship of Jamaat Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Shafiqur Rahman. After evaluating the probe committee’s findings regarding the severe breach of party discipline, the council formally cancelled the rukniyat (full membership) of both former leaders.
