BNP candidate Eliza Zaman has been elected unopposed to a vacant reserved seat for women in the 13th National Parliament.

The Election Commission published a gazette notification to this effect on Monday morning.

Eliza was the lone candidate whose nomination paper was declared valid. She submitted her nomination paper on 26 October for the by-election to the vacant reserved women’s Seat No. 23 (Seat No. 323).

According to the notification, her nomination paper was scrutinised in accordance with the previously announced schedule and declared valid.

As she did not withdraw her candidacy by the 4pm deadline on Sunday (1 November), her name was published in the final list of candidates under Section 12(1) of the Jatiya Sangsad (Women’s Reserved Seats) Election Act, 2004.
