Actor R Madhavan is set to return to the horror genre with filmmaker Vishal Furia, who hopes to deliver a fresh take on Indian horror. The makers have kept the film’s title, plot and supporting cast under wraps.
According to NDTV, Furia confirmed Madhavan’s involvement in an interview with ‘Variety’, describing the actor as his first and only choice for the project. He praised Madhavan’s performance in the cult horror film ’13B’ and highlighted his experience and understanding of the genre.
“He is the true OG horror star of the cult classic Indian horror ’13B’, one of my favourite films of all time,” Furia said.
The filmmaker added that Madhavan’s conviction and experience made him an ideal fit for the film. He also noted the actor’s background as a writer, director and producer, expressing enthusiasm about their collaboration.
“Together, we want to create something audiences have never seen before in Indian horror, the kind of fear they will feel in their bones,” Furia said.
Madhavan has earned recognition for his performances in horror films such as ’13B’ and ‘Shaitaan’. Furia, meanwhile, has directed several films in the genre, including ‘Lapachhapi’, ‘Chhorii’ and ‘Maa’, starring Kajol.
The upcoming film will mark the pair’s second collaboration after ‘Maa’, in which Madhavan made a cameo appearance.
The project comes amid growing interest in Hindi horror cinema, with films such as ‘Stree’, ‘Bhediya’ and ‘Munjya’ attracting audiences through a mix of supernatural horror and comedy.
However, the makers have yet to announce a release date or reveal further details about the upcoming film.
