Bangladeshi film actress Moushumi will celebrate her birthday on 3 November, with fans arranging special events in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country despite her absence from the capital for the past three years.

Her husband, actor Omar Sani, is also planning a special surprise for her birthday.

A special event organised by the Moushumi Fan Club is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Farmgate, Dhaka, according to sources familiar with the arrangements.

Speaking about the event, Omar Sani said his wife and daughter had asked him to arrange a special prayer on behalf of the family. He said he was also planning something else but did not want to disclose it.

“I am doing it from my heart, not to let people know about it,” he said. “As for the event organised by the fan club, I will simply attend as the chief guest. That is all.”

Speaking from the United States, Moushumi said she had no special plans for her birthday this year. She hopes to spend some quality time with her mother, daughter and sisters.

“There is no special plan for my birthday here. My mother, daughter and sisters and I will try to spend some lovely time together in the United States. We will keep it a family affair, spend time at home and have meals together. That is all. If I were in Dhaka, perhaps there would have been a different kind of arrangement,” she said.

Moushumi added that she tries to observe the occasion more modestly because Islam does not prescribe birthday celebrations. However, she said Omar Sani often arranges different activities in Dhaka, while her fan club members organise events across the country.

“I enjoy all these things from afar, and I like it,” she said.

Recalling her childhood birthdays, Moushumi said her father used to arrange meals at orphanages and help underprivileged and vulnerable people. However, he was not keen on holding special celebrations at home.

Her mother, meanwhile, loved cooking and inviting relatives over for meals. Moushumi said she missed those days very much.
