Tagore University of Creative Arts (TUCA) has officially launched its new skill development platform, Centre for Arts, Networking, Vocational and Applied Skills (CANVAS), to foster career-oriented skill development and build an effective bridge between academia and industry.
The platform was formally inaugurated on Sunday, through an event held at the university campus in Uttara, Dhaka. Robin Khan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, graced the event with his presence.
CANVAS aims to provide practical and professional training tailored to the demands of the modern workplace alongside traditional institutional education. Its primary objective is to assist students and young professionals in skill development, career planning, and achieving professional excellence, said a press release on Monday.
The platform is launching its operations initially with five short-term courses: Apparel Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising, AI-Augmented Content Development, AI-Augmented Software Development, and News Presenting, Reporting, and Speaking. Additionally, plans are underway to conduct a Career, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Development Programme aimed at preparing students for employment, enhancing professional competencies, and fostering entrepreneurship.
These courses have been curated keeping in view the growing demand for skilled manpower in the apparel and fashion industry, AI-driven technology sectors, and the media industry. Moving forward, the training scope will be expanded further in alignment with industry demands and technological advancements.
Robin Khan stated that CANVAS will allow students to acquire necessary workplace skills alongside academic knowledge. He added that this initiative will also strengthen university-industry collaboration and play a vital role in youth employment and entrepreneurship development.
