Kaniz Fatema Chhowa, a medical graduate with a deep passion for acting, has added a new achievement to her journey by winning the first season of the ‘Miss and Mrs Doctor’ beauty pageant.

She won the title at an event held at a luxury hotel in Dhaka on 31 October, marking a new chapter in her life.

Chhowa said the moment felt almost unreal. As she stood before the audience with the winner’s crown on her head, her father’s face repeatedly came to mind. She felt that he would have been filled with pride had he been there to witness her achievement.

Following her victory, she expressed gratitude to show director Sakib Sonet and Dr Hasan Mahmud, the show’s chief executive and organiser.

Chhowa began acting in small roles before completing her medical studies. She is also skilled in dancing, painting and singing. The culturally inclined young woman completed her MBBS degree at Rostov State Medical University in Russia in 2025. The university was established in 1930.

Originally from Khulna, Chhowa has ambitions both as a doctor and as an actress. Her deep love for acting has encouraged her to pursue the art alongside her medical career.

Her father, GM Kamrul Huda, previously worked at a bank. He has been recovering at home after suffering a stroke about a year and a half ago. Chhowa continues to work towards fulfilling the dreams of her father and mother, Firoza Huda. She also bears responsibility for helping her younger brother, Tanzim, grow into a responsible person.

Born on 18 November, Chhowa spoke about her aspirations and her connection with the arts.

“When I was busy with my studies abroad, I tried to showcase Bangladeshi culture through songs whenever cultural programmes took place there. For some reason, I always felt that there was an artist within me. That is why I feel a special connection with culture. I love acting, singing and dancing. I also love painting,” she said.

Recalling her victory in the reality show, Chhowa said her father was the only person on her mind at that moment.

“When I became the champion of this reality show, my father’s face kept appearing before my eyes. He was my greatest source of inspiration. That is why the photographs taken at that moment do not show me smiling. My thoughts were entirely occupied by my father. I missed him terribly,” she said.

Chhowa said she intended to continue acting even as she pursued her career as a doctor. She also hopes to address problems in Bangladesh’s healthcare system, particularly its mismanagement.

Veteran Bangladeshi actor and physician Dr Ejazul Islam has praised Chhowa’s acting. He particularly commended her dialogue delivery and pronunciation, comparing her abilities in these areas with those of an experienced performer.
