A ten-day training programme has started at BRAC CDM in Gazipur to prepare 15 university professors as master trainers who will help improve the teaching skills of junior university faculty members across the country.
The Training of Trainers (ToT) initiative is jointly organised by Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and British Council under Junior Faculty Professional Development Program.
Professor Laila Noor Islam, dean of the University Teachers’ Training Academy, formally inaugurated the programme.
Other speakers at the inaugural session included HEAT Project Director Professor Md Asaduzzaman, Professional Development Program Consultant Professor Md Abdus Salam, International Consultant Professor Mark O’Hara, and British Council Head of Education Tawfiq Hasan.
Mark O’Hara, alongside four local consultants with the British Council, is conducting the sessions as resource persons.
The training aims to build participants’ confidence, strengthen their capacity to conduct training, and familiarise them with three modules created for the Junior Faculty Professional Development Program. Upon completing the programme, the participating professors will serve as master trainers.
A similar training programme was previously organised under the Senior Faculty Professional Development Program. Training for 5,000 faculty members from different universities across Bangladesh has already begun under the HEAT Project through 111 master trainers developed under these programmes.
The initiative is expected to improve university teachers’ teaching skills and professional capacity, boosting the overall quality of higher education in Bangladesh.
