Dhaka University (DU) has retained top position among Bangladeshi institutions in “QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027”, released on Tuesday.
According to the latest rankings published by UK-based international education and research organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), DU placed 136th in Asia and 16th in South Asia.
The university also secured the top position among higher education institutions in Bangladesh in the previous year’s ranking.
A total of 1,722 universities from 26 Asian countries are featured in this year’s rankings. The University of Hong Kong secured first place in Asia, while China’s Peking University placed second.
Commenting on the achievement, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam said the university’s position in the international rankings brings joy and pride.
He noted that consistently maintaining the top spot in Bangladesh serves as recognition of the combined efforts of teachers, students, researchers, and all those concerned.
The vice-chancellor said holding a ranking position is not the sole objective, adding that efforts are ongoing to further consolidate DU’s international standing by enhancing the quality of education and research.
Professor Islam emphasised that key priorities include enriching the university’s academic and research environment, expanding research facilities, broadening international cooperation, and creating opportunities for students to acquire global-standard skills.
He added that the support of teachers, students, alumni, and all stakeholders is vital to achieving these objectives.
The QS Asia University Rankings determine institutional positions based on several criteria, including academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, research quality and impact, staff with PhDs, international research cooperation, and international faculty and students.
