Tollywood actor and former West Bengal MLA Soham Chakraborty has been accused of fraud, criminal breach of trust and issuing death threats after a businessman filed a police complaint against him.
The complainant, Sheikh Shahid Imam, a resident of Arambagh in Hooghly and the proprietor of Sonam Movies, submitted a written complaint to Charu Market Police Station in Kolkata.
Speaking to Indian media, Shahid Imam claimed that he had invested money in a film project with Soham in 2021.
“I gave Soham money to produce a film. At that time, the film was titled Manikjor. Later, its name was changed to Paka Dekha,” he said.
According to Shahid, the film was released in theatres and generated business, but he never received his share of the profits.
“When I asked for my share, I was repeatedly told, ‘today’ or ‘tomorrow’,” he alleged.
Shahid further claimed that he later met Soham’s associate, Arghya Chattopadhyay, in the basement of South City Mall while trying to recover the money.
“He threatened to kill me if I continued asking for the money. I was told that since Soham was an MLA, putting pressure on him would have serious consequences,” Shahid alleged.
He also claimed that he later spoke directly with Soham, who allegedly refused to return the money.
“Soham told me clearly that he would not pay. The satellite rights of Paka Dekha have also been sold, and I believe he received that money as well. I have evidence to support my claim,” he said.
This is not the first time Soham has faced such allegations.
In June this year, another complainant, Kaushik Karmakar, alleged that he had invested ₹10.5 million in Soham Entertainment after being promised that Soham would star in the film Lal Suitcase Ta Dekhechen?
According to the complaint, the film was never made and Soham did not act in it.
Karmakar also alleged that when he sought a refund, the actor threatened him by using his political influence.
Soham Chakraborty has not yet issued any public response to either of the allegations.
